SOURCE: HANLEY CENTER IN BIG LAYOFFS, “SERIOUS BUDGET ISSUES”

-ATIN- -06/15/08 – Struggling Hanley Center fired fifteen employees on Friday – some of the fired workers were apparently quite high level – amid “continuing low census” and “serious budget issues” at the non-profit, according to a source who worked as a part-time therapist at Hanley. ATIN has yet to receive a response to an email sent to Mike Hanley, the son of founder Jack Hanley who is now chairman of Hanley’s board, seeking to confirm the firings.

For the past year, Hanley Center has seen its losses mount as the Palm Beach drug rehab center has found it increasingly difficult to fill its beds, giving truth to predictions made when Hanley severed relations with Hazelden four years ago that the center would be unable to make it as an independent entity. And now some are questioning the wisdom of naming a clinician, former chief medical officer Barbara Krantz, to the CEO post at Hanley when clearly ace marketing and business skills are what’s needed to turn Hanley around.
