10/22/2014 -ATIN – The long-time executive director of New York City area Staten Island-based Amethyst House has been terminated, according to local reports. The Amethyst House is a place where women can live with their children while engaging in therapeutic endeavors as well as hold down a job or seek a job and, according to the same local report, has been open since 1990.
Executive Director Gigi Lipman was coming up on nine years of executive directorship when very early this month the board sent her a curt note, really nothing more than that it seems from reports, telling her that her role as executive director was at an end. That there is a need for more of these places there can be no doubt, no matter what the debate about Ms. Lipman and her role at Amethyst House. Efforts by Treatment Magazine to reach Ms. Lipman were unsuccessful. Board Cites Confidentiality The board of Amethyst House told local reporters it could not comment further on the matter of Ms. Lipman’s employment at Amethyst House because of confidentiality concerns. In a second local report Ms. Lipman told local Staten Island press that she was in a state of shock and had asked the board to reconsider. Ms Lipman told a local reporter that she had written the board a short letter saying she wanted to keep her job but had not heard back from the board about her request. Treatment Magazine has not seen any reports or heard of who might replace Ms. Lipman as Amethyst House executive director. In the photo above, Ms. Lipman is to the right.
