National Suicide Prevention Week
National Suicide Prevention Week lasts until Sept. 11, and you can make a difference in raising awareness and fighting stigma. This resource list, published by the Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) and authored by the Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC), provides a guide for those who want to get involved. View prevention plans by state here, and engage in a virtual learning lab aimed at assisting community leaders in improving strategies and building partnerships.
Additionally, as the largest private funder of suicide prevention research, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) provides resources and publishes personal stories of those impacted by suicide. Learn about the foundation’s various fundraising walks nationwide.

West Coast Symposium
The West Coast Symposium on Addictive Disorders will take place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3. As a collaborative meeting of the nonprofit C4 Recovery Foundation, which strives to deliver resources to treatment providers and other stakeholders, the 12th annual event will feature more than 50 nationally recognized professionals and over 45 educational sessions. Attendees will receive on-demand access to all sessions for 45 days after the symposium, until Nov. 18. You can register at a discounted rate until Sept. 24.

A Call to Present Treatment Webinars
NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, is taking proposals for its 2022 free webinar series. Professionals with expertise on relevant topics can share their knowledge through presentations, with a maximum of three speakers for a given webinar. Registration closes Nov. 1, and accepted applicants will be notified by Nov. 12.
Latino SUD Experiences and Technological Advances in Treatment
The free NAADAC webinar “A Gestalt View of the Latino Experience with Substance Use Disorders” will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. EST on Sept.15. It will be presented by mental health counselors Gerardo Wence-Munoz and Oscar Sida. Participants will learn key principles of Gestalt psychology, in the context of treating Latinos suffering from substance use disorder (SUD). NAADAC will also hold a specialty online training session titled “Advances in Technology in the Addiction Profession” on Sept. 10 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. EST. The learning objectives include vertical and horizontal integration strategies, barriers to care and a case study on planning virtual care. Register here.
