Voices of Hope: The Rugged Road to Recovery Hits Airwaves
The 12-part documentary Voices of Hope: The Rugged Road to Recovery, which began airing this month in Maine, focuses on young people who have struggled with substance use disorder and who are in recovery and living healthy lifestyles. The documentary was created by Students Empowered to End Dependency (SEED), a team of teens and adults from five school systems in Maine. The purpose of the work, as stated on the documentary’s website, “is to amplify community messaging about use of chemical substances by explaining the science underlying the disease model.” Episodes are available online after they air.
Life Is Crying Named Award Finalist
Author Benzena Brown’s book Life Is Crying: Chemical Dependency Power Screams Louder Then the Pain of Tears was recently named a finalist for the Book Excellence Award, an international competition dedicated to supporting author visibility. The book explores the challenges of addiction with the goal of assisting individuals and families suffering with chemical dependency to achieve a healthy lifestyle and get the needed support for recovery.

The ATA’s New Board Members
The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) recently announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors. Recognized healthcare leaders James Mault, M.D., FACS, Geeta Nayyar, MD, MBA, and Mona Siddiqui, MD, MPH, MSE, will work on the board to advance telehealth and virtual care. Says Nayyar, “It is time to scale healthcare and improve access and outcomes via technology that offers solutions addressing where we have gaps.”

Hazelden Betty Ford Webinar for Professionals
On June 2 from 3-5:45 pm EST, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation will host the webinar “Linking ACT to Addiction & Mental Health Treatment.” It will feature Daniel J. Moran, Ph.D., BCBA-D, doctoral program director of the Long Island University Post Psychological Services Center. The virtual event costs $60, and attendees will earn 2.5 CE’s. Registration is open.
