Iowa's St. Gregory's Retreat Files Suit Against Wellpoint  E-mail
Addiction Treatment Industry Newswire

-ATIN- 05/27/16- St Gregory's Retreat, a small center in Iowa, is suing Wellpoint after the insurance giant withheld payments from a relatively new jail-based program of for-profit  St. Gregory's, according published reports. St. Gregory's lawsuit alleges a purposeful scheme on the part of Wellness to shut down its programs. Wellpoint said they had yet to examine the lawsuit, but also said that St Gregory's medical claims, presumably claims that were denied by Wellpoint, had not been supported by medical records. It has historically been relatively rare for centers, especially quite small ones like St. Gregory's, to take on giant health providers in court.  A pioneering suit filed about a decade ago by South Florida's Watershed was successful, with United Healthcare paying substantial back claims to the Watershed.
