Bradley Sorte: Caron’s New CEO
Bradley Sorte officially stepped into his new role as president and chief executive officer of Caron Treatment Centers on July 1, succeeding Doug Tieman, who recently retired after 25 years leading the team. Tieman, president emeritus, will remain on the board of directors and will serve as special advisor to Sorte. The new CEO has a background as a trained clinician, and has worked with the nonprofit treatment provider for 10 years, previously serving as its EVP and chief strategy and growth officer. Sorte spoke of the transition, along with his career path, in a Q&A last winter with TreatmentMagazine.com.
Under his leadership, Caron will see a continuation of the evidence-based approach toward treatment that has been central to its mission of prevention and recovery. In the coming years, Sorte expects stronger integrative treatment for tackling co-occurring disorders. Two tasks at the top of his list are (1) reaching out to those who feel they don’t require care but who fit the criteria for substance use disorder (SUD), and (2) overcoming mental health and SUD obstacles left in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Genetically Based SUD Treatment
NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, will host the webinar “Alco-Genes” in the Bottle: Genetically Based SUD Treatment” on July 14 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. EST, led by Kenneth Blum, Ph.D., chief scientific officer of Geneus Health and the Blum Institute. The webinar will present information on how science is changing the standards of care in addiction treatment, focusing on topics such as genetic testing, neurotransmitter pathways and reward deficiency syndrome (RDS). Kids and Family Addiction
The webinar “Empowering Kids Affected by Family Addiction” will be led by Helene Photias of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Children’s Program. Photias will cover ways in which children are affected when a family member has an SUD, stages of healing, and activities for resilience-building. The recording will be posted on July 14 at 2:30 p.m. EST for on-demand viewing, and registration can be found here.

Bay Cove Human Services
Bay Cove Human Services is seeking a clinical supervisor for its multidisciplinary ACCS Integrated Team in Boston. Preferred candidates will have a master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field, a qualification as a licensed practitioner of the healing arts and two or more years of experience serving adults with mental health challenges. Bay Cove also has other open positions, including residential counselors (Taunton, Mass.), an early intervention service coordinator (Boston), a mental health worker (Hyannis, Barnstable, Mass.) and a child-focused clinician (Boston).
